Quick Update (Zzz...)
Nov. 17th, 2023 08:43 amA lot has happened this month. I posted a preview here from my trip to Mishima and Tokyo last week. I'm too tired right now to flush out a complete and comprehensive update, but it will be forthcoming.
I'll quickly mention that I started teaching myself (You Drive Me) Crazy by Britney Spears this week. There's just something about that song that is a novelty and it brings a smile to my face. I think part of the fun of covering artists like Britney or the Spice Girls is that they are generally not known for playing instruments of any kind. I think there's a certain irony there about covering manufactured pop.
Not knocking on it too much though! I've come around a bit when it comes to manufactured pop because it does actually take talent and hard work to get up on stage to sing to a choreographed song. No way I'm doing that with the bad knees I've acquired as a nice bonus item this year. 🙄
I have noticed my guitar skills stagnating a bit, so I will have to put my big girl pants on and start studying the theoretical aspect of guitar in order to master the more challenging riffs like the AC/DC song that everyone knows. This will require me to buy an electric guitar and amp eventually though.
A cheat I found the other day is that apparently you can replace the strings on your acoustic guitar with electric in order to make it easier to play, and extend your practise time for longer. When I took an electric guitar for a test drive the other week, I noticed right away that even though the unit itself was significantly heavier, the strings were much lighter and easier on my fingers. That's something I'll have to look at doing given that I haven't changed my guitar strings since I bought my guitar last year, and it seems to go out of tune because of that very, very quickly.
This video and this video came to my attention because of the YouTube algorithm pushing them to my front page. I didn't realise that there is this much drama in the guitar community.
Edit: I apparently didn't post/unlock this entry before I fell asleep last night. Hello!
